Japan Launches eVisa Program for Indian Travelers effective April 1 2024.

Japan has launched an eVisa program for Indian tourists, eliminating the need for physical visa stickers on passports. Starting April 1, Indian citizens and foreign nationals residing in India can apply for electronic visas through Japan Visa Application Centers operated by VFS Global. This initiative offers a single-entry short-term visa specifically for tourism purposes, allowing a maximum stay of 90 days in Japan.

Under the new system, applicants must submit their applications to VFS Global's Visa Application Centers, similar to the previous process. However, instead of receiving a traditional visa sticker, successful applicants will obtain an electronic visa. Upon arrival at the airport, travelers must present a "visa issuance notice" on their phones, which requires internet access. Only a digital visa issuance notice will be accepted; PDFs, photos, screenshots, or printed copies will not be valid.

To display the "visa issuance notice", follow these steps:

1. At airport check-in, present the "Visa Issuance Notice" (printed or pdf data) provided by your travel agency, which contains a two-dimensional barcode.

2. Scan the barcode with your device and enter the required information to display the notice.

3. Tap "Display" to view the electronic "visa issuance notice", which includes a countdown timer that starts immediately, proving the notice is valid.
