Navigating the Road to a Japanese Driving License: A Comprehensive Guide to the Process, Departments, and Addresses.

Obtaining a driving license in Japan is a rigorous and challenging process that requires dedication and perseverance. The process is overseen by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (MLIT), which is responsible for setting the standards and regulations for driver licensing.

To begin the process, applicants must first visit a driving school, such as the Japan Automobile Federation (JAF) Driving School or the Toyota Driving School, to enroll in driving lessons. These schools are located throughout Japan, and a list of addresses can be found on the JAF website or the Toyota Driving School website.

Once the theoretical exam is passed, applicants can move on to the practical driving lessons. These lessons cover various driving techniques, such as starting and stopping, turning, and merging onto highways.

After completing a minimum number of driving hours, applicants can take the practical driving test, which is administered by the Prefectural Police Department in their area. A list of Prefectural Police Departments can be found on the National Police Agency website.

If the practical test is passed, applicants are issued a learner's permit, which allows them to practice driving under supervision. Finally, after completing additional driving hours and passing a final practical test, they are awarded a full Japanese driving license by the MLIT.
