      Important:

Knowledge of the Japanese language is not a prerequisite for applying to the MEXT scholarship program for undergraduate studies. However, successful applicants are required to learn Japanese during their preparatory education in Japan before beginning their undergraduate studies.
Here are some key points regarding the language requirement:

  2. Preparatory Japanese Language Training:
    • Recipients who do not have sufficient Japanese language skills will undergo a one-year preparatory course in Japanese language and other necessary subjects.
    • This preparatory training is mandatory unless the recipient demonstrates advanced proficiency in Japanese.
  3. Medium of Instruction:
    • Many undergraduate programs under the MEXT scholarship are taught in Japanese, making it essential for recipients to learn the language during the preparatory phase.
  4. Willingness to Learn Japanese:
    • Applicants must be willing to learn Japanese and adapt to living and studying in Japan, as this is a key part of the scholarship program's goals.
If you already have proficiency in Japanese, it can be advantageous but is not required for the application process.
